The unseasonably warm weather last winter lead to an early apple season this year. Have you gone apple picking yet?
Every year our family likes to hit the farm around September. Nothing says “Hello Autumn” like walking through the orchards in a light sweater with the cool crisp fall weather around and the smell of fresh apple donuts in the air. Yum! We usually pick a farm with a little something for everyone. Corn mazes, bouncy house, apple bobbing and other apple related activities, hay rides, and trees filled with perfect sun-ripened fruits.
If you’re like our family (and probably every other family), you can’t help but overload on all the fresh fruits. So the question is, what do you do with all those apples? What you do with it may depend on which varieties you picked up.
You can always bake another apple pie, but why not try some other recipes? Here’s a few I’ve been dying to try. Go ahead and fill your house with some warm apple-y goodness. Don’t forget to share some pics and some good tips!
Apple-Squash Soup (from a crockpot!).
If you live in or around Boston, like us, check out Boston.com’s guide to local apple farms. Not in Boston? Don’t worry! We found a list that will help you find farms with apple picking anywhere in the U.S.
Happy picking & baking!
